All drivers carry a current Private Hire Driver Licence issued by Horsham District Council. Their badge details and vehicle plate numbers are on display in every car.
Safeguarding trained
Accredited safeguarding training is a precondition of licensing in West Sussex — covering the protection of children and vulnerable adults, county lines awareness and the recognition of exploitation.
Medically fit to DVLA Group 2
Our drivers meet the DVLA Group 2 medical standard — the same standard required of HGV and bus drivers — and renew their medical certification on the council's schedule.

- Are A&R Cars drivers DBS-checked?
- Yes. Every driver holds a current Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate. Checks are renewed in line with our licensing authority's policy and are a mandatory condition of working with us — no exceptions.
- Who licenses your drivers?
- All of our drivers hold a Private Hire Driver Licence issued by Horsham District Council. Licensing includes safeguarding training, a medical to DVLA Group 2 standard, a knowledge test and an enhanced DBS check.
- Have your drivers had safeguarding training?
- Yes. Council-issued licensing in West Sussex requires accredited safeguarding training covering child protection, the protection of vulnerable adults, county lines awareness and recognising signs of exploitation. Our drivers complete this training before they are licensed and refresh it on renewal.
- Are your vehicles insured for paying passengers?
- Every vehicle in our fleet carries Hire & Reward insurance — the specific cover required to transport fare-paying passengers in the UK. Our vehicles are also council-inspected, MOT-tested every 6 months and serviced on schedule.
